Set-Up/Troubleshooting

EchoTiles – NFC Setup & Programming Guide

Each EchoTile includes a pre-programmed NFC chip that works with most modern smartphones. Follow these steps to test, set up, or re-program your tile for menus, social links, or other actions.

1. Check Compatibility

iPhone: Models from 2018 (XS, XR) or newer can read NFC automatically when the screen is on.

Android: Most phones since 2015 have NFC. You can turn it on by going to Settings → Connected Devices → NFC.

2. Program Your Tile

Recommended Apps:

Phone: NFC Tools (iOS) – available in the App Store

Android: NFC Tools (Android) – available in Google Play

Steps to program:

1. Open the NFC Tools app and select Write → Add a record.

2. Choose an action type (for example, URL / Website) and enter your link.

3. Tap Write / Record, then hold your phone to the tile until it confirms success.

4. Test the tile by tapping again to make sure it opens the new link.

3. Test Your Tile

Unlock your phone.

Hold the top (for iPhone) or middle (for most Androids) of your phone near the NFC area on the tile.

A notification should appear that opens the link/shortcut programmed into your tile.

4. Best Practices

Keep the NFC area clear and avoid covering it with metal or magnets.

Do not expose the tile to temperatures above 60°C (140°F).

When mounting on a wall or surface, make sure it’s clean and dry before using adhesive pads.

5. Troubleshooting

No response: Make sure NFC is turned on and slowly move your phone across the back of the tile to find the right spot.

App can’t write: Check if the tile is locked to read-only mode in the NFC Tools app.

Using on metal surfaces: Place a thin foam pad or non-metal barrier between the tile and surface to improve signal.
